Summit Fire & EMS turns car ‘into a convertible’ to extricate patient who hit a semi on I-70

As blizzard-like conditions met holiday travel last weekend, Summit Fire & EMS responded to a call Saturday, Jan. 13, for a driver who ended up colliding with a semitractor-trailer on Interstate 70. Battalion Chief Lou Laurina said in a social media post that one of the occupants had to be extricated from the sedan in what turned out to be an hourlong operation. Laurina said that as the crews worked to remove the roof of the vehicle, they simultaneously provided care to the patient trapped in the vehicle. See more ...
