A fire crew in Summit County is taking on training for a certain spot that continues to catches fire. See more ...  

A contractor sustained injuries while working at Keystone Resort on Thursday, June 8, and had to be airlifted to a hospital in Denver. The incident occurred at the top of Dercum Mountain around 12:40 p.m. while the contractor was on-site conducting welding work on a water tank. Flight for Life was dispatched due to the patient’s location, according to Summit Fire & EMS. Brandon Ciullo had just joined the Summit County’s Water Rescue Team when he noticed a couple with what he described as “Walmart duckies” — cheap plastic river tubes — getting into the Upper Blue River. The spring runoff had the river rushing, and Ciullo, who was about to set out on his boogie board with some friends, warned the couple that the rapids ahead could pop their tubes.

Summit Fire & EMS will host its inaugural Wildfire Rendezvous from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, at the Summit Middle School. This “farmer’s market” style, drop-in event invites members of the public to learn from experts from a number of organizations about how to be prepared for wildfire season. Representatives of fire and emergency-response agencies, the insurance industry, landscaping companies and land managers will be at the event. A guest speaker from the East Troublesome Fire will talk about lessons learned and how to be prepared for when disaster strikes.

Summit County firefighting agencies will be training at a Frisco hotel this week and smoke may be visible from the exercise. On May 16, 18 and 19, Red, White & Blue as well as Summit Fire & EMS will be training at the AC Hotel by Marriott located at 1202 Summit Boulevard from about 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the release states. The training is focused on high-rise buildings and smoke will be used during the exercises. Read more ...
