Vehicle crashes into Silverthorne apartment building, prompting evacuation and displacing several residents

A small SUV crashed into a Blue River Apartment building Sunday, May 7, according to the Silverthorne Police Department, breaking a gas line and prompting the evacuation of several buildings in the area. No one was seriously injured when the driver of a Nissan Murano backed into one of several apartment buildings in the complex off Adams Avenue around 8:30 p.m., Silverthorne Police Assistant Chief Rachel Dunaway said. Silverthorne fire station construction plans pushed to 2024 after selecting contractor for the project

A new Silverthorne Fire Station will not break ground until early 2024, a few months later than Summit Fire & EMS leadership had previously stated, according to a spokesperson for the fire district. Back in January, Summit Fire & EMS said crews could break ground on the new station by this fall, but the fire protection district has just recently selected Denver-based Hyder Construction as the general contractor on the project.

Residents lobby Summit Fire & EMS to expedite Silverthorne fire station that is now planned to break ground this fall

Construction crews could break ground on a new Silverthorne Fire Station as soon as this fall, Summit Fire & EMS Chief Travis Davis said Tuesday, Jan. 17. During the Summit Fire & EMS board meeting where Davis laid out plans for how the project will move forward, several Silverthorne residents spoke during public comment about the need to move expeditiously. “I know people want this station built tomorrow,” Davis said. “But folks, it just doesn’t happen that way.” Read more ...
